Wouldn’t it be great to deliver your website content directly to a readers desktop? Rather than relying on them visiting your site to see “What’s New”?
Well, you can.
If you use a Content Management System, like WordPress, your site will generally have a RSS Feed…. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it’s a ‘standardized’ way to distribute content electronically.
Essentially, the RSS feed delivers the content of your site to another service is a specific order, so your content can be used ‘elsewhere’. Once you can wrap your mind around this, you’ll see how you can increase your Readership by using this technology.
One of the simplest ways to use a RSS feed from a website is to encourage visitors to use a “RSS Reader”, like Google Reader, to view your content…. another way is to encourage visitors to receive the updates right into their email box.
To ensure that you’re getting the best value from your RSS feed, it’s advisable to use a service like Google’s Feedburner. Using Feedburner will allow you to provide email subscriptions to your RSS Feed as well as providing some fairly awesome statistics on ‘who’ is reading your feed, and how the feed is being used…
