Social Networking for business can be tough sometimes – what do you say, how do you maintain your brand. Most of use our phones to browse & respond on Facebook and Twitter, read and send emails and so on…. but when it comes to being able to use these mediums effectively for our business, we find ourselves stuck.

This week, I was able to get an early look at the Glyder app for iOS devices (not for Androids yet unfortunately) and whilst I found the app a little lacking in some features, I thought it was pretty awesome.

Glyder allows you to create a visual message to:

  • Thank your customers or readers a Thank You Message
  • Post a Question
  • Announce a deal
  • Share a coupon code
  • Free form messages

I find that I’m graphically challenged and trying to mess around getting the layout right to post to my facebook page is just tedious.  With Glyder I was able to create an update, add a cool photo and submit in no time flat.

The app comes with a series of templates and images so you can readily create a message and send it.  The templates are great and the ability to select the style, which includes colour schemes, is nice:

but it would be nice to be able to choose my own colour schemes to match my branding.

You can change the image on all the templates however, right now, the image has to be in your devices Photo Gallery.  Quite limiting, but with the use of the Good Reader app I was able to download images from my Dropbox and Box.com accounts and save them to my photo gallery.  A bit messy, but it works.  I really would prefer to use images directly from one of my (many) cloud storage accounts.  After speaking with one of the founders (Glenn), I have been assured that integration with Dropbox, Instagram, Flickr and accounts on iStockPhoto etc is forthcoming.

Send to many accounts

social networking for businessOnce you’ve created your message, you can send it to:

  • Facebook (and choose one of your pages as well as your profile)
  • Email
  • Twitter
  • Mailchimp and
  • Text messages (if you are in the US)
The marketing material indicates that you can post to Pinterest, but that wasn’t included in the version of the app in the iTunes store just yet.
Glyder shows promise in helping Businesses engage with their customers, fans and followers and I’ll be looking forward to see how this app develops over time.
