Great post on the Copybunny site…
Would you ACTUALLY buy this product???

CB certainly likes to ‘tell it as it is’ and her copywriting advice is excellent – any business owner can take her tips and use them straight away….

In the article, CB discusses the headline from the Copywriting perspective – but also addresses the way it doesn’t encourage her to click through to find out more.

The headline reads…

The Amazing Money-Making Secret Of A 28-year-old Convicted Felon Who Earns More Money Per Year Than The CEOs Of FedEx, eBay(R), Amazon, Time Warner, Apple Computer, McDonalds, Microsoft, Nike, Yahoo, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, And Goodyear Combined!

Let me ask you from the business perspective – would you want to portray this kind of persona?

If your answer isn’t – ‘That would depend on my target audience‘ – then you need to go back to basics…. However, unless your TA is felons or ex felons themselves – I would suggest that aligning your products and services with the criminal side of things may not be exactly what you want to achieve. Flashes of the old UK TV show ‘Minder’ come to mind…

You may, and probably should, focus on the positive aspects though – the ‘rags to riches’ story, overcoming adversity or discrimination etc etc etc – but do so in a way that connects with your TA, leaves them wanting more and supports your business persona and reputation.

CB provides a great revision on the headline that, I feel, achieves exactly that.

So tell me, what does the copywriting on your website, brochures and other marketing materials, say about your business persona?
