On the Stretch Your Mind And Body Talk Show today, Connie and I hosted the owner and marketing implementation coach from Coaches Marketing Source, Kristen Beireis.
Kristen has a deep passion for coaching and believes that everyone could use a coach. She believes coaching enlivens peoples’ lives, wakes people up, and helps people live their dreams. It was great to hear Kristen talk about Work / Life balance and how easily it could get out of balance. Listening to Kristen reminded me of my experiences as a younger, and not so younger, woman when my life ‘got out of balance’.
Whilst we discussed the Work / Life balance issues many entrepreneurs and business people face, we also discussed how Business people get out of balance in their businesses. A business person can easily become so ‘bogged down’ with doing everything for their business, that they lose focus on ensuring that they do the important things that will ensure success.
As a business person, I have experienced this. I was so busy being busy, that I temporarily lost focus on the fact that I should be ‘general of my army’ and not a soldier – in fact I tried to be all the soldiers!
This approach not only annoys your staff and contractors (believe me, it does!), it really is not good for your health and wellbeing.
Is there an answer for business people so that they can maintain their balance – both within their business and in their personal lives? Yes, there is – it’s called planning and prioritizing.
Kristen strongly recommended that you, as a business person, should have a list of what it is important that YOU do. What is that you do on a regular basis to bring the ‘money through the door’? What is it that you are doing, that whilst it is important – doesn’t rely on you to do it? If that doesn’t help – think about what you like to do in your business versus what you really don’t like.
Do you really have to do your own marketing, article writing, website or blog development. Is this really a good and solid use of your time? Yes, I know there is a cost associated with getting others to help – but you really have to ask yourself – what is your time worth? If you spend 7 hours doing something that it would take an expert 1 hour to do – aren’t you better off taking that assistance? You can spend that 7 hours focusing on what you’re good at, to deliver your business….
Another way of looking at this, is that if you’ve been doing it all yourself, what happens when you become successful and have to deliver the business you’ve generated? The other activities you have been doing, stop. Now think about what happens if you stop marketing? When you finish delivering the current work – where is the new work to keep going with?
So – are you in balance? Are your business operations in balance and working the best they can for you? Share your thoughts below.
