When working with a business to set up their web presence, I recommend that they use the WordPress platform to deliver their website and blog.  WordPress is great to deliver this functionality, and you can even use it as a membership site to deliver different levels of content.

Let’s look at the benefits of using WordPress

It’s FREE

The wordpress core is free (my favorite word) and has an army of developers working on it to make it better.

Great Support

As the software is open source, there is a great support community spread around the world.  It is very rare, that you can’t find the solution for a problem that you encounter.

Add-Ons

The amount of add-ons, or plugins as they are called, available to extend the functionality of the core software is phenonemal.  Most of these plug-ins are available at no charge and have excellent support.

There are some plug-ins that have a fee associated with them – and these are generally well worth the investment.

Better yet, you can write your own plug-in to do just about anything you want.  Robert Plank has an excellent tutorial on how to do this – WordPress Crusher.

Search Engine Friendly

WordPress, for whatever reason, is loved by the search engines.  Using the right strategy, it is entirely possible to have your site in the Search Engines within hours.

Completely Customizable

There are several great free wordpress themes (I even provide some) and I recommend that when first starting out that new bloggers find a free theme that looks good.

However, it is entirely possible to customize the look and feel of your blog to make it a website and blog – with your own branding.  Personally, I use wordpress and great Graphic Design work to deliver the look and feel that I want for each site.

Easy To Use

Once your WordPress blog is set up, it is so easy to use.  Even setting it up isn’t all that difficult, but once you have the theme the way you like it and all the plug-ins installed and configured – using your the WordPress administration back end is really easy.

Updating your content, adding new pages, adding new blog posts, images, audio and videos is very, very easy.  You won’t need the help of tech to do these updates.

Working with WordPress will make your life so much easier and provide you with the freedom to express your businesses personality through the look and feel of your site.

  1. Hi Charly,

I read the short and saw “and you can even use it as a membership site to deliver different levels of content” and went on to read the rest of the article with no further mention of this aspect of wordpress. Do you by any chance have more information in this regard?
