In doing some work for a new website recently, I was asked about a way to award points for interacting with the site. My client had looked at the MyCred WordPress Plugin and, I have to say, it’s pretty damn good.

If you’re looking for a way to reward your members for interacting with your site, reading content etc, I highly recommend you take a look at this plugin. It’s fairly full featured and comes in Free and Premium flavours. Some of the features this plugin provides includes:

  • Individual User Point Balances – each user can view their point balances
  • Global balance view – Administrators can see the balances for each user
  • Exclude Users – specific users or capabilities can be excluded from the points system
  • Bulk import and export
  • Automatic Points – award points automatically for taking specific actions. There’s a range of ‘hooks’ already coded, including viewing videos, visiting the site, submitting Gravity Forms.
  • Multiple Point Types

The thing that really impressed me, is the level of documentation that is provided for developers like me. We wanted to do a few extra things with the system and making the modifications, whilst they took a little work, were a lot easier because of the amount of work the creators of this plugin have done.

I strongly recommend you take a look, if you’re considering ‘gamifying’ your website.
