My friend and colleague Carol Deckert recently asked me to help her update her blogs and implemented a new look.  I asked Carol to search for themes that she liked, so I could work out a design that she liked.

Carol chose Emotic,  a fixed width, 2 column blog theme.  It was very pretty and strking.  The theme was to be implemented on Carols RUNLancaster Blog.  The original look of the theme Carol choose is shown below:

There were a couple of things that we wanted to change.

The first being that most people will read black, or extremely dark text, on a white background.  White text on a black background, as in this design, can be very hard on the eyes.

The second issue was that we really wanted a three column design, to give us more options when laying out the blog.

So, I set to work and the results are shown below.  Feel free to test drive the theme and download my mods.  Just make sure you leave the acknowledgments in place.

  1. I want to take this time to publicly thank Charly for all her hard work to make this theme work for me! When I first chose this theme, Charly wasn’t sure it would work but being the brave one that she is, she said, let me play with it and see what I can do. Well, within a very short time, voila – she did it and I’m thrilled to pieces with her work. If anyone has any WordPress work they need to have done, whether it is customization of a theme, an upgrade, plugins installed or help with troubleshooting the plugins, Charly is the person to contact.

Thank you Charly – you have made my life easier and brighter and I’m getting such wonderful comments on my blog too!

I would be remiss not to mention my second blog that Charly customized for me as well! I’m not quite ready to launch it (there are no posts there yet), but she also customized http://www.CarolConnectsPeople.com/blog for me – and did another awesome job!

    Charly – you rock!
